A record run
Ailee Larson SP’15, from Lutsen, Minnesota, completed a historic season with the cross-country program in a way that only three other St. Catherine runners have ever done.
She competed in the 6K (about 3.73 miles) at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Cross-Country Championships on November 23 at Hanover College in Indiana among the 280 best runners in the country. Larson qualified for the national meet when she raced to all-region honors and an eighth place finish at the NCAA Central Region meet on November 16.
Larson’s regional and national performances came shortly after she finished third at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships — the best performance at the conference meet in St. Kate’s history — to earn All-MIAC honors.
Earlier in the season, Larson ran the second-fastest time (22:12) in cross-country history at St. Kate’s to win the UW–River Falls Falcon Invitational. Her ninth-place time at the University of Minnesota Roy Griak meet was also the highest ever in St. Catherine history. Larson, who began running barefoot in her cross-country races this year, ended the season with seven top-10 finishes and three MIAC Athlete-of-the-Week honors. — Sara Eisenhauer
